The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is rising, in large part due to the continuing increase in adult obesity. According to the International Obesity Task Force, 1.7 billion of the global population have a weight-related disease. A fifth of all US adults and a quarter of all adults worldwide, or as much as 1.8 billion, have metabolic syndrome.
