Summary
Corticosteroids have emerged as an alternative therapy for persistent DME or DME refractory to conventional laser photocoagulation and other treatments. These agents have characteristics that result in the inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and possess anti-inflammatory properties.
